The Company had a background in building telecom and wireless RF components.  Two years prior to this retained recruiting search, this publicly traded company in the Northeast opened a new division to penetrate the smart energy and smart meters market with M2M communications modules for Automated Metering Infrastructure.

The Director of Portfolio Product Management would be tasked with developing relationships and projects that would define and lead the integration of the company’s smart meters products into a diverse and broad range of domestic and international smart energy and smart grid 3.0 M2M, communications, utilities regulatory bodies, and metering systems and subsystems partners’ platforms.

In order to meet the Performance Objectives as defined, the ideal candidate needed a background in the utilities metering markets and wireless data radios, preferably M2M for power management and remote monitoring.

The candidate also needed relationships with smart meters and energy vendors and regulatory bodies in North America and Europe.  A proven track record in growing product portfolios and increasing market share against strong competition was essential.

Result of Retained Search for Smart Meters Director

Within 4 months of the candidate hired from NextGen Global Executive Search, the new Director for smart meters had strengthened 3 existing partnerships resulting in contract bids of $184M and grew the team by adding a KEY Senior Solutions Engineer to work directly on customer requirements and defining smart meters strategies for the customers.  The client has initiated a new retained search assignment with us for a VP role.

Project Objectives: Benchmark and outline strengths and weaknesses of the customer’s mobile OS navigation application against its competitors and recommend areas for improvement across all their smartphones including mobile OS Android, Blackberry, and iOS

Project Description: Benchmark customers navigation application again competitors’ navigation apps and against Google Maps; benchmark usability, battery consumption, and data usage.

Quality Improvement Program – reduce supply chain costs

Client:  Mobile Devices Distributor

Project Objective:  Develop a strategy to design and implement a Quality Improvement Program designed to reduce supply chain operating costs and improve internal distribution (warehouse and retail operations, finance, procurement, and a supplier) times.

 

Sustainability Solution:  Identified redundant and wasteful issues with supply chain processes and implemented within 3 weeks a new process that reduced costs in two operations by 34% and 37% and improved Quality Assurance methods.

Project Objectives: Deliver excellent user experience (similar or surpassing Hulu) for a Video-on-Demand (VoD) portal using HTML5 as much as possible to maintain portability and native code when performance is compromised by HTML

Director Network Systems Software – Future Battle Management

future battle management applicationsObjective: NextGen Global Executive Search was retained to fill a Director of Network System Software for Future Battle Management Applications.  The search was critical in that this client was bringing this person on board to head up a new system software division.   This person would be responsible for exploring new technology and building a team in an industry that is known for its difficulty in doing so.   The client came to NextGen GES because of our reputation in the market for similar searches, as well as the client’s confidence in our ability to deliver the right candidates quickly.

 Search Strategy: NextGen GES conducted a thorough search for candidates in the geographical areas stated by the customer which included key competitors and parallel industries. Our focus was on candidates that were currently employed making significant contributions to their companies. We interviewed more than 20 candidates in an industry where candidates at this level must possess high level clearance in an effort to find the one individual who would meet or exceed the skill level, culture and leadership fit.

Results: The search resulted in NextGen GES finding four candidates from the client’s direct competitors who were performing similar responsibilities and ready for a new challenge. Feedback from the client showed that the chosen candidate had not only met but exceeded their own expectation. The client was particularly pleased with our search method and immediately moved to make an offer of employment.  In addition, they were quite satisfied with how our team kept them informed throughout the process, the speed in which we executed, and the quality of the selected candidates.
